Jeff hadn’t expected to be thrown into a situation like this, he was a ruthless serial killer; one who had no specific targets and no MO. And he had chosen a random house to break into to do his usual…activities. He slid in through the window, as he always did; but when he stood to his full height, his victim was already awake, staring wide-eyed at him. She then looked to the door, jumping as footsteps echoed from the downstairs area.

Jeff felt the hairs on the back of his neck stand and his skin erupted in goosebumps; something was really wrong if it freakedhimout. He noticed his victim slowly getting out of bed, and he started to move back towards the window; whoever was downstairs wasn’t supposed to be in the house. His victim whirled around to stare at him wide-eyed as a floorboard underneath him creakedloudly. He, the girl, and whoever was downstairs all stopped, then whoever it was startedsprintingupstairs towards them.

The girl bolted towards her closet, Jeff close behind in his panic; for a serial killer he still had intense fear responses, he was still human after all. He watched her climb into a crawl space in the closet ceiling, whirling around as he heard doors being slammed open in the upstairs area, only just down the hall. He turned back around to see the girl’s hand and he grabbed it, grabbing the opening with his other hand and lifting himself up, his foot just barely going through as the girl’s bedroom door crashed open. Jeff felt his knife slip out of his hoodie pocket and he scrambled to grab it, sucking on his teeth as he failed to do so and it nearly fell through the opening.

The girl next to him quickly snatched it up before it could make any noise and she practically leaped back against his chest as the closet door slammed open. Jeff wrapped his arms around her, the two holding their breath as the shadowed man; from what Jeff could see, loudly rummaged through the closet, thankfully never looking up.

The man turned back to the girl’s room and she stiffened in Jeff’s hold, knife gripped tightly in her hands as her room was torn apart. The man screamed and the girl practically molded herself to Jeff’s chest, and he didn’t stop her, staring wide-eyed at the opening. What in the f*ck had he gotten himself into?!

Jeff and the girl stayed in the attic for nearly an hour, listening to the man storm through her house and break everything from the sound of it. Finally, everything went silent, but the two didn’t move; knowing he could’ve been trying to trick them into coming out. Another hour later the girl slowly climbed back down into the closet, her eyes going everywhere as she walked over to her phone, carefully stepping over her overturned dresser and frowning at her flipped bed.

Jeff crept over to the bedroom doorway, peeking out carefully; eyes wide and listening to the smallest creek. He turned went he felt eyes on him, seeing the girl staring at him. They held a staring contest before the girl nodded, and Jeff nodded back; a nonverbal agreement taking place.

The girl called the police and Jeff stayed at the door until those familiar blue and red lights appeared. Jeff then slipped out the window, disappearing into the night as the girl raced downstairs to meet the cops. Jeff ran away from the neighborhood and into the nearby woods, frowning as he heard a muttering man who sounded very angry. He snuck towards the noise, crouching down as he reached the man; he sounded very similar to the person who had broken into the girl’s house, and he…was smoking meth?

Jeff huffed, flipping his knife in his hands; which he had taken back from the girl as they climbed down from the attic. He snuck up behind the man, waiting until he noticed him then grinned “GO.TO.SLEEP.”

It was odd, when you saw someone so-jarring-for the first time, that they never leave your mind…or that it was odd how often they appear around you that you hadn’t even realized before that. You had done some research after that break-in; both on the unknown man and the other one who had ended up staying to protect you, and left without harming you; even as a killer himself.

Jeffery Allan Woods, AKA, Jeff the killer, AKA, the sleeping killer. He had been on the rise in your city for months now, and you didn’t know whether you were lucky or not that he had decided to choose you as his victim that night. You didn’t die, and you oddly felt a lot safer during that situation being held by him, holding his knife protectively.

You snorted, continuing to walk down the street with a bag full of groceries in your hand. You were surrounded by people, people you saw every day. But now there was one person your eyes were being drawn to; it was a young man, tall, wearing a dark grey hoodie, a black leather jacket, ripped black jeans, and vans. With long black hair falling from his hood, his eyes and mouth hidden behind a pair of glasses and mask.

You knew exactly who he was, he was Jeff; it only took being around him once to recognize him. You continued to walk toward him, and you realized he was looking right at you. You nodded, he nodded, and you continued on your way, Jeff doing the same. It was nothing more than that, an agreement from a traumatic experience. And suddenly you felt much safer somehow getting on a killers…good side? You didn’t know, maybe one day he would change his mind but for now; he would nod, you would nod. And you would go your separate ways.

-end-
