A TikTok song that started as a joke but has since exploded in popularity has received a further boost since being remixed by two Canadian artists.

Megan Boni, 26, posted a video of her satirical a cappella song “Looking for a Man in Finance” last month, writing in the caption: “Can someone make this into an actual song plz just for funzies.”

The song — which repeats the lyrics “I’m looking for a man in finance, trust fund, 6’5”, blue eyes” — was quickly remixed by other accounts and musicians across the globe, including the Canadian duo Loud Luxury, and has been dubbed by some as the song of the summer.

Boni, who lives in New York, was reportedly working a day job in sales when she posted “Looking for a Man in Finance” and has since quit her job, according to People.

“I haven’t slept. I feel like I’ve been blacked out for a week,” said Boni earlier this month. “I suddenly have an agent.”

Boni added that she’s heard from a number of musicians who want to collaborate with her and she’s “suddenly navigating the music industry.”

Though listeners haven’t waited for an official release, with the song getting played globally as countless DJs take turns remixing it.

“People are asking if I’m annoyed that I’m not getting credit, and I’m like no way, I literally asked for DJs to remix it,” she told People.

What inspired the song?

Boni said the idea behind the song is poking fun at single women who complain about their lack of a relationship while simultaneously maintaining an exorbitant list of demands for any potential partner.

“It was just making fun of that, so I started thinking of the most outlandish, hardest things to find in a man and wrote it down, then I came up with that rhyme,” Boni explained.

Loud Luxury are a Canadian DJ duo who first met at the University of Western Ontario.

Andrew Dedyk and Joe Depace are now based in Los Angeles and have achieved success for their remixes and original compositions.

The duo remixed Boni’s song and she even recorded a new verse for the collaboration. Loud Luxury posted the remix on their own TikTok account last week and the video has received more than seven million views.

What’s next for Boni?

While she navigates sudden viral fame, Boni is also planning to release the song as a single and hopes to make appearances on the summer festival circuit while also continuing to produce comedy.

“I’d love to take some stand up or improv classes, maybe some acting classes,” she told People.

Though she’s posted hundreds of videos on TikTok, “Looking for a Man in Finance” is her biggest hit.

“You always hope that your content will get views, but I had no idea this was going to resonate,” she said. “It’s turned into a monster! The Internet is crazy.”
